Carmen Milena Mayorga is a Salvadoran diplomat, politician, journalist, and former model. Since December 1, 2020, she has been the Salvadoran Ambassador to the United States of America. President Nayib Bukele chose her for this important role. Before becoming an ambassador, she was a member of the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador for the San Salvador department from 2018 to 2020.
Milena Mayorga was also a successful model and beauty pageant contestant. She represented El Salvador in Miss Universe 1996 and made it into the top ten. Before she started her political career, she worked as a journalist and news presenter. She used to be part of the Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA) political party, but she left it in 2020.

Early Life and Modeling Career
Milena Mayorga was born in San Salvador. Her father was a doctor, and her mother was from Venezuela. After finishing high school, Milena became a model. She worked for Willie Maldonado on a very popular TV show in El Salvador called Fin de Semana.
Miss Universe and TV Work
In 1996, Milena Mayorga won the title of Miss El Salvador. This allowed her to compete in Miss Universe 1996. She did very well, finishing in the Top 10. She was the fourth woman from El Salvador to reach the top at Miss Universe. She was also the last Salvadoran to make the top until Isabella García-Manzo in Miss Universe 2023. Milena Mayorga was the first person from Central America to have a "Back To Back" classification at Miss Universe. This means someone from her country also placed high the year before.
After Miss Universe, Milena Mayorga started a career in television. From 1999 to 2005, she was a news presenter for Teledos. In 2005, she moved to a different channel, Canal 12. There, she joined the team of presenters for Hola El Salvador, which is El Salvador's longest-running morning show. In 2011, Milena Mayorga started her own talk show on Canal 12, called Milena tu amiga (Milena, Your Friend).
Political Career
Serving in the Legislative Assembly (2018-2020)
Milena Mayorga was elected to the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador in 2018. She represented the San Salvador department. At that time, she was a member of the Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA) party. However, on June 4, 2020, she decided to leave the party. She stated she had disagreements with the party's leadership.
As a legislator, Milena Mayorga worked on important issues. She supported creating a special group to fight against corruption. She also supported setting up an international group to help stop illegal activities in El Salvador. She also worked on a law to bring back money that was stolen or hidden from the country.
In 2020, she voted in favor of all the plans proposed by President Nayib Bukele's government. These plans included new loans, financial rules, and health measures related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ambassador to the United States (2020-Present)
On December 1, 2020, Milena Mayorga became the Ambassador to the United States. In this role, she works to improve relations between El Salvador and the U.S. She has supported creating a special group to help Salvadorans living in the United States. She also supported a law that allows Salvadorans living abroad to vote in elections, like the 2021 Salvadoran legislative election. She also worked on changes to laws about migration and immigration. She supported the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which aims to ban nuclear weapons.
