Milena Smit was born in Elche, Spain, on October 5, 1996. She grew up in different towns like Torrevieja and Murcia. Her father is from the Netherlands, and her mother is Spanish.
Milena started working as a model when she was 15 years old. Later, she moved to Madrid to find more acting opportunities. She studied acting at the Cristina Rota school. She also learned from a famous acting coach, Bernard Hiller. He has taught many well-known actors. Before becoming a full-time actress, Milena had different jobs. She worked as a waitress, a shop assistant, and even a babysitter.

Milena Smit began her acting career in short films. Some of these were Diagonales and Innermost. Her big break came in 2020 with the movie Cross the Line. She starred alongside actor Mario Casas. The people who cast actors for the film found Milena on Instagram. They felt she was perfect for the role.
After Cross the Line, Milena got to work with the famous director Pedro Almodóvar. She was cast in his film Parallel Mothers (2021). In this movie, she acted with Penélope Cruz, a very famous actress. Milena and Penélope played two women who meet in a hospital. They both have babies on the same day. Director Almodóvar praised Milena's acting. He said she has a special way of showing feelings that cannot be taught. For her role in Parallel Mothers, Milena was nominated for another Goya Award.
