Milford is a small community in Lassen County, California. It's known as a "census-designated place," which means it's an area that the government counts for population, but it's not officially a city or town. Milford is located on Mill Creek, about 15 miles (24 km) south of Litchfield. It sits high up, at an elevation of 4,222 feet (1,287 meters) above sea level. In 2020, about 147 people lived there.

Discovering Milford's Past
Milford started as a settlement in 1861. Two people, Judson Dakin and J.C. Wemple, opened a mill there. A mill is a place where raw materials, like wood or grain, are processed. The first post office in Milford opened a few years later in 1864.
Milford and the Dixie Fire
In August 2021, a very large wildfire called the Dixie Fire came close to Milford. Luckily, brave firefighters worked hard and were able to protect the buildings and homes in the community from the flames.
