History of Milford

Milford was started by Judge Aaron M. Perine on April 10, 1836. He and his family had moved to the area in 1834. The town got its name from a mill that was located near a place where people could cross a river (a "ford").

The first post office in Milford opened in 1837. Later, in 1880, Milford officially became an incorporated town. This meant it had its own local government.

Milford covers a total area of about 1.47 square miles (3.82 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 1.45 square miles (3.76 square kilometers), is land. A small part, about 0.02 square miles (0.06 square kilometers), is water.
