The Military Museum of the Legion is a special place that tells the story of the Spanish Legion. This museum was first opened in 1940. It was created to celebrate and remember the important history of the Legion.

About the Spanish Legion Museum

The Military Museum of the Legion is dedicated to showing the history and achievements of the Spanish Legion. It helps visitors understand what the Legion is and what it has done over the years. Museums like this often display uniforms, weapons, flags, and other items from the past.

Where the Museum Started

When it first opened, the museum was in a small room. This room was part of the barracks of the 2nd Regiment of the Legion. These barracks were located in a place called Dar-Riffien, near Tetouan.

Moving to Ceuta

In 1956, a big change happened. Morocco became an independent country, which meant it was no longer controlled by Spain. Because of this, the Spanish Legion and its museum had to move. They found a new home in Ceuta, a Spanish city on the coast of North Africa.

New Homes for the Museum

After moving to Ceuta, the museum was first set up in the Barracks of El Serrallo. But later, a brand-new building was built just for the museum. This new, purpose-built home was finished in 1978. You can find it on the Paseo de Colón in Ceuta. This new building helps the museum better display its collections and welcome visitors.
