What Makes Mill Meadows Special?
Mill Meadows is made up of five gently sloping fields. These fields are separated by old hedges, which are like natural fences. The ground here is mostly made of something called London clay. This type of soil can sometimes make parts of the meadows quite wet.
The Grasses and Flowers You'll See
Even in the wet areas, many different plants thrive. The main types of grass you'll find growing here are red fescue and common bent. These grasses help create a perfect home for other plants and insects.
When you visit, keep an eye out for beautiful flowers! You might spot delicate harebells with their bell-shaped blue flowers. Another special flower here is the common spotted orchid, which has lovely spotted petals.
Amazing Animals of Mill Meadows
Beyond the open fields, the Local Nature Reserve also has areas with bushes (scrub) and trees (woodland). These different habitats mean lots of different animals can live here.
You might be lucky enough to see some mammals like badgers, stoats, and foxes. These animals are important parts of the local ecosystem. Mill Meadows is also home to many different kinds of birds, making it a great place for birdwatching.
