History of Mill Rock
Mill Rock has a simple but interesting history.
Early Days and the Watermill
In 1808, a watermill was built in the area that would become Mill Rock. A watermill uses the power of flowing water, like a river or stream, to turn a large wheel. This wheel then powers machinery, often for grinding grain into flour. It was a very important building for the people living nearby, helping them prepare their food.
The Post Office Years
Later, in 1876, a post office opened in Mill Rock. This was a big deal because it made it easier for people to send and receive letters and packages. Having a post office meant the community was growing and becoming more connected. The name of the post office was changed slightly to "Millrock" in 1895. However, the post office eventually closed its doors in 1904.
