Milltown is a small place in Chambers County, Alabama, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

Milltown is also called Graggs Mill or Woodville. You can find it along Alabama State Route 77, about 12.3 miles (19.8 km) north-northwest of a town called LaFayette.

A Look Back: Milltown's History

Milltown has an interesting past with a few different names!

How Milltown Got Its Name

This community was first known as Graggs Mill. This name came from a special kind of mill called a gristmill. A gristmill is a place where grain, like corn or wheat, is ground into flour. William Graggs was the person who ran this important mill.

Later, the name was changed to Woodville. However, there was already another place in Alabama called Woodville. To avoid confusion, the name was changed again, this time to Milltown. This name likely stuck because of the original gristmill that was so important to the community.

The Milltown Post Office

For many years, Milltown had its own post office. It opened in 1848 and served the community for over a century. The post office closed its doors in 1955.
