Milton is a small place in Indiana, USA. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of Union Township in Ohio County.
A Look Back at Milton's History
Milton began thanks to a man named Pinkney James. In 1824, he built a gristmill (a mill for grinding grain into flour) and a sawmill (a mill for cutting timber) here. These mills were very important for the early settlers, helping them process food and wood.
The very next year, in 1825, Pinkney James officially planned out the community of Milton. This means he decided where streets and plots of land would be. Later, in 1847, Milton even had its own post office. However, it only stayed open for a few years, closing down in 1850.
