Milton's Rugby Journey
Starting in Rugby Union
Before playing rugby league, Milton Thaiday began his professional sports career in rugby union. He played for the NSW Waratahs team. This team competed in a major rugby union competition called Super 14 Rugby. In June 2004, Milton even scored a try when the Waratahs played against the Pacific Islanders.
Milton was first noticed by a famous rugby player named Mark Ella. Mark discovered Milton while he was playing in a local competition. This competition was held in Lismore, a town in northern New South Wales.
Playing for the Newcastle Knights
Milton Thaiday joined the Newcastle Knights in 2005. He quickly became an important player for the team. In his first year, the 2005 season, he scored 7 tries in 14 games. A "try" in rugby is like a touchdown in American football.
Milton played for the Knights until 2007. Sadly, he suffered a serious shoulder injury in round 5 of the 2007 season. This injury meant he could not play for the rest of that year. He decided to retire from professional rugby at the end of the 2007 season.
Career Highlights
Milton Thaiday started his rugby journey playing for a junior club called Souths Townsville. Throughout his professional career from 2005 to 2007, he played a total of 29 games. During these games, he scored 14 tries, which added up to 56 points for his teams.
