Mims Hackett Jr. was born on September 28, 1941. He is an American politician who was part of the Democratic Party. He served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2002 to 2007. In this role, he represented the 27th Legislative District, which covers the western part of Essex County.
About Mims Hackett Jr.
Mims Hackett Jr. was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He went to Paul Quinn College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1963. He studied biology and physical science. Later, in 1976, he received a Master's degree from Seton Hall University. This degree was in administration and supervision.
Public Service and Teaching Career
Before becoming a state assemblyman, Mr. Hackett was a science teacher for 32 years. He taught in the Union City Board of Education. This shows his dedication to education.
He also served his local community in Orange, New Jersey. He was a member of the Orange City Council from 1988 to 1996. After that, he became the Mayor of Orange, New Jersey. He served as mayor from 1996 until May 2008.
Roles in the New Jersey Assembly
While in the New Jersey General Assembly, Mr. Hackett held important positions. He was the Chair of the State Government Committee. He also served on the Appropriations Committee. This committee handles how money is spent. Additionally, he was part of the Military and Veterans' Affairs Committee.
Mr. Hackett resigned from his Assembly seat on September 10, 2007. He also resigned as mayor of Orange on May 27, 2008. He currently lives in Orange, New Jersey.
