Mims Hackett Jr. (born September 28, 1941) is an American politician from the Democratic Party. He served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2002 to 2007. This group helps make laws for the state of New Jersey. He represented the 27th Legislative District, which includes parts of Essex County.
Life and Education
Mims Hackett Jr. was born on September 28, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama. He went to Paul Quinn College and earned a degree in biology and physical science in 1963. Later, in 1976, he received a master's degree from Seton Hall University. His master's degree focused on administration and supervision.
Before becoming a politician, Mr. Hackett worked for 32 years as a science teacher. He taught in the Union City Board of Education.

As a member of the New Jersey General Assembly, Mr. Hackett helped make decisions for the state. He was the leader (Chair) of the State Government Committee. Mr. Hackett was the Mayor of Orange, New Jersey, from 1996 to 2008. The mayor is the main leader of a city. Before becoming mayor, he served on the Orange City Council from 1988 to 1996. The City Council is a group of people who help run the city and make local decisions. He completed his service as Mayor in May 2008.
