What is a Creamery?

A creamery is a special factory where milk products are made. The Minden Creamery mostly made butter. It also produced other dairy items.

Why Was a New Building Needed?

The Minden Butter Manufacturing Company started in 1908. Their first building was smaller. They needed a bigger place to make more products. The new creamery, built in 1916, gave them enough space. It also allowed them to pasteurize their products. Pasteurization is a process that heats liquids, like milk, to kill harmful germs. This makes the food safer to eat.

A Big Business

The company sold its butter and other items under the "Windmill" brand name. It grew to be the biggest creamery in all of Nevada! Most of their products were sent to the San Francisco area. But they also sold their goods to other countries. For example, in 1915, they sent a huge shipment of butter all the way to China.

The Creamery Today

The Minden Creamery building is still used today. It is now home to a company called Bently Nevada. They use the old creamery for their manufacturing work.

A Historic Landmark

Because of its important history, the Minden Creamery was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This happened on August 6, 1986. Being on this list means the building is recognized as a special part of history. It is protected so future generations can learn from it.
