The Ministry of National Defence (which is called Ministerul Apărării Naționale or MApN in Romanian) is one of the important groups that make up the Government of Romania. Its main job is to keep Romania safe and secure.
As of July 2025, Ionuț Moșteanu is the person leading this ministry. He is known as the Minister of National Defence.

What the Ministry Does

The Ministry of National Defence is a special part of the government. It works to protect Romania according to the country's laws and its national security plan. This means it helps keep Romania independent, united, and safe. It also makes sure the country's democratic government is protected.
The Ministry is responsible to the Parliament, the Supreme Council of National Defence, and the Government. It must follow the rules in the Constitution, other laws, and agreements Romania has made with other countries.

Key Departments
- Department of Euro-Atlantic Integration and Defence Policy: This department helps Romania work with other countries, especially those in NATO and the European Union. It plans how Romania will defend itself and handles international military relationships.
- Department of Relations with the Parliament, Legislative Harmonization and Public Relations: This group talks to the Parliament, other government groups, and non-profit organizations. It helps create new laws about defence and makes sure they fit with rules from NATO and the EU. It also shares information with the public.
- Armaments Department: This department is in charge of buying all the military equipment and supplies that Romania's armed forces need.
- General Staff: This is like the main command center for the armed forces. It makes sure the military is ready for action and helps with international cooperation. The person in charge of the General Staff is the highest-ranking military officer in Romania. The President of Romania chooses this leader.
- Inspectorate of the Ministry of National Defence: This part checks how well different activities are being done within the armed forces. It also makes sure that environmental and safety rules are followed.
- General Secretariat: This department handles the daily office work, administration, and official events for the Minister.

- Human Resources Management Directorate: This department creates the rules and plans for managing all the people who work in the Ministry and the armed forces.

- Internal Audit Directorate: This department checks how the Ministry's money and property are being used. It makes sure everything is done efficiently and wisely.
Other Important Roles
The Minister of National Defence also has a team of advisors and a special control group that helps him lead the Ministry. There are also military courts and prosecutors who work with the Ministry on certain legal matters.
The Ministry also oversees various military units, training centers, and research institutes across the country.
