The Minnehaha Grange Hall is a historic building in Edina, Minnesota. It was once the meeting place for a group called the Minnehaha Grange, No. 398. This group was part of a larger organization known as the Grange.

The Grange was started in 1867 by Oliver Hudson Kelley in Elk River, Minnesota. It quickly grew across the United States. The main goal of the Grange was to help farmers. They wanted to improve farming methods and create a friendly community for farmers. They also worked on important issues like fair prices for railroad shipping.

History of the Minnehaha Grange Hall

The Minnehaha Grange, No. 398, began on December 23, 1873. Its first members came from nearby towns like Edina Mills, Richfield Mills, St. Louis Park, and Hopkins.

Moving the Hall

The Grange Hall was not always in its current spot. It was first located at Wooddale Avenue and West 50th Street. Later, the building was moved to Tupa Park in Edina. This park is near Minnesota State Highway 100 and Eden Avenue.

Serving as Village Hall

For many years, the Minnehaha Grange Hall served another important purpose. From 1888 to 1942, it was the Edina Village Hall. This means it was where the local government met and made decisions for the village.

The Grange Today

After some time, the Grange stopped meeting in the hall. However, a new group brought the Grange back to the building.

The Oliver Hudson Kelley Grange

In 2012, a new Grange group was formed. It is called the Oliver Hudson Kelley Grange (OHK), No. 834. This group was started by young historians and activists. They wanted to make sure the Grange's history stayed alive in Minnesota.

The OHK Grange meets every week at the Minnehaha Grange Hall. Many leaders from the State Grange of Minnesota are part of this group. They continue to hold meetings in the traditional Grange way, just like they did 150 years ago. The OHK Grange is a strong voice for positive change in Minnesota.

Visiting the Hall

Today, the Edina Historical Society owns the Minnehaha Hall. They also own the Cahill School next to it. Both buildings are open for tours. You can arrange a visit by making an appointment.
