Minnie Two Shoes was born on March 24, 1950. Her birthplace was the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Montana. She was a member of the Assiniboine Sioux tribe. She grew up with five sisters and one brother.

Education and Learning

Minnie Two Shoes believed in the power of education. In 1983, she earned a bachelor's degree. She studied Community Development at the Native American Education Service College in Fort Peck. Later, she also studied journalism at the University of Missouri from 1987 to 1990. While there, she helped start the Native American Student Association.

A Voice for Native Americans

Minnie Two Shoes used her skills to help Native American voices be heard. In 1984, she helped create the Native American Press Association. This group later became the Native American Journalists Association in 1990. She also helped start the Wolf Point Traditional Women's Society.

As a journalist, she edited two magazines: Native Peoples and Aboriginal Voices. She also wrote for News From Indian Country. She worked with the Wotanin Wowapi at Fort Peck. There, she wrote articles and columns for a publication called Red Road Home. She wrote about important topics like water rights, air quality, and the environment. She also covered oil, gas, and how communities could grow economically.

Minnie Two Shoes was featured in a 2002 film called The Spirit of Annie Mae. This film highlighted leaders of the American Indian Movement. She was important in finding information about a difficult event that happened in 1975.

Minnie Two Shoes was married to John Carmichael. They had five children together: two daughters named Pahinskwe Two Shoes and Tateyumniwi Carmichael, and three sons named Honwe Nupa Two Shoes, Peta Tinda Two Shoes, and Makbiya Wambli Carmichael.

Minnie Two Shoes passed away on April 9, 2010, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She died from cancer. Her husband had passed away before her.
