Minute facts for kids
A minute is a common way we measure time. It's equal to 60 seconds. Think of it like this: if you count 60 seconds, you've just spent one minute! There are also 60 minutes in one hour.
While seconds are part of the main system of measurement called the SI units, minutes are not. They are more of a traditional unit that we use every day.
Minutes for Angles
Did you know a minute can also be a tiny part of an angle? When we talk about angles, a minute is called an arcminute. It's a very small measurement, equal to 1⁄60 of a degree.
We use a special symbol, , to show arcminutes. For example, when you look at the Sun or the Moon from Earth, they both appear to be about 30 arcminutes wide. That's how small an arcminute is!
