View of the city from the walking path

The Mirador del Obispado is a famous lookout point in Monterrey, Mexico. Its name means "Bishop's Lookout" in Spanish. You can find it at the very top of the Cerro del Obispado (Bishop's Hill). This special spot is home to one of the biggest flags in Mexico, called a bandera monumental (monumental flag). The hill and the lookout get their name from a historic building nearby, the Palacio del Obispado (Bishop's Palace), which was built a long time ago in the late 1700s.

The lookout is about 775 meters (2,543 feet) above sea level. It has a large round area, about 40 meters (131 feet) wide, with the giant flagpole right in the middle. You'll find benches where you can rest and enjoy the view. There's also a small parking area, mostly for people with disabilities, and three pretty French gardens. The area has restrooms and water fountains for visitors. It's designed to be a great place for families to walk around. The main path is wide and well-lit, making it safe and easy to explore. While cars can drive through, the main parking lot is usually at the park's entrance.

Mexico's Monumental Flag

Mirador Obispado
Second biggest bandera monumental in Mexico

The huge monumental flag at the Mirador del Obispado was first raised on February 24, 2005. This date is important because it's Mexican Flag Day! When it was first put up, it was the biggest flag in the country. Today, it's the second largest, with an even bigger one in Piedras Negras, Coahuila.

This flag is truly massive! The flagpole itself is very tall, reaching about 100.6 meters (330 feet) into the sky. It weighs a whopping 120 metric tons (130 short tons) (about 132 short tons). The flag fabric measures 50 by 28.6 metres (164 by 94 ft) (about 164 by 94 feet) and weighs 230 kilograms (510 lb) (about 507 pounds). That's double the size of most other monumental flags! Because of its impressive size, the Mirador del Obispado is a popular spot for both tourists and local people to visit.

Special events and ceremonies are held here on important days. These include Flag Day, Independence Day, and Army Day. Sometimes, these celebrations feature exciting light shows and fireworks. You might also see artistic performances, like traditional regional dances, music festivals, and concerts. It's a vibrant place to experience Mexican culture and history.
