The Miravalles Jorge Manuel Dengo National Park is a special protected area in Costa Rica. It is located in the northwest part of the country. This park is part of a larger area called the Arenal Tempisque Conservation Area.

This national park is home to the Miravalles Volcano. This volcano is still active, but its last recorded eruption was only steam in 1946. The park was officially created on June 5, 2019. It was formed by taking 43 square kilometres (17 sq mi) from the Miravalles Protected Zone. This made it the twenty-ninth national park in Costa Rica.

What the Park is Used For

Generating Clean Energy

Near the park, there is a special power plant. This plant uses geothermal energy to make electricity. Geothermal energy comes from the heat deep inside the Earth. The plant uses a large underground area filled with hot water and steam. This heat helps to create clean electricity for people to use.

Solar Power

Also in the same area, you can find the Miravalles Solar Park. This is another way Costa Rica makes clean energy. The solar park uses sunlight to create electricity. Both the geothermal and solar parks help Costa Rica get power in a way that is good for the environment.
