Mireille Gingras Gillings, born in 1962, is a Canadian scientist and business leader. She is a neurobiologist, which means she studies the nervous system. She is also an entrepreneur, someone who starts and runs businesses.
In 2004, she founded a company called HUYA Bioscience International. This company works in biotech, which uses living things to make new products. Mireille Gillings is the CEO and Executive Chair of this company. It has offices in San Diego, California, and in Pudong, Shanghai, China.
In 2010, a magazine called Fortune wrote about Mireille Gillings. They were interested in her idea of finding new medicines in China. She believed China could be a great source for developing important and valuable new drugs.
Mireille Gillings was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She has studied at several universities around the world. She earned her PhD from Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands. She also did special research after her PhD at Bordeaux University in France. Later, she studied at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. She received her first university degree from Concordia University in Montréal.
She has started several successful companies, which is why she calls herself a "serial entrepreneur." Mireille Gillings can speak several languages. Besides her native French, she is also able to use Mandarin.
Contributions and Awards
In 2019, the French Government gave Dr. Gillings a very special award. She received the Knight of the Legion of Honor. This award recognized her important work in neuroscience and her efforts as an entrepreneur. It also honored her generous acts of giving back to the community.
