Mirjam Ott was a fantastic curler from Switzerland. She was born on January 27, 1972, in Bern. Mirjam lived in Laax, Switzerland, and became a very successful athlete.

She was known as a "skip" in curling, which means she was the captain of her team. The skip decides the strategy and throws the last two stones in each round. Mirjam led the Swiss Olympic Curling Team and won many medals around the world.

Mirjam won two silver medals at the Winter Olympics. This is a huge accomplishment!

  • In 2002, she won her first silver medal at the Salt Lake City Olympics. She played with a team led by Luzia Ebnöther.
  • Then, in 2006, she won another silver medal at the Turin Olympics. This time, Mirjam was the skip of her own team.

Winning two Olympic medals in curling made her the first woman to achieve this feat.

  • In 2008, her team won the European Championship in Sweden.
  • She became a World Curling Champion in 2012. Her team won the 2012 Ford World Women's Curling Championship by beating Sweden in the final game.

Later Olympic Games

  • At the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, her team finished in fourth place.
  • She also skipped her team at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games. They again finished in fourth place after a close game against Great Britain for the bronze medal.
