Rosa María Juana Martínez Suárez (born February 23, 1927), known as Mirtha Legrand, is a famous actress and TV host from Argentina. Her stage name, Mirtha Legrand, means "the great" in French. She has been working in entertainment for over 80 years! This makes her one of the most recognized stars in Argentina.
Mirtha Legrand got her first main acting role in the movie Los martes, orquídeas (On Tuesdays, Orchids) when she was only 14 years old. She quickly became a top actress during the Golden Age of Argentine cinema in the 1940s and 1950s. She starred in many films during this time. Mirtha is also very well-known for her TV interview show. It was first called Having Lunch with Stars and started in 1968. Later, the show's name changed to Having Lunch with Mirtha Legrand.
Early Life and Start of Her Career

Mirtha Legrand was born on February 23, 1927, in a town called Villa Cañás. She has a twin sister named Silvia Legrand. Their father, José Martínez, was a librarian, and their mother, Rosa Suárez, was a school teacher. They also had a brother named José A. Martínez Suárez. Their parents were from Spain.
In 1934, Mirtha's parents separated. Her mother, Rosa, moved to Rosario with her three children. There, Mirtha and Silvia took classes to learn singing and dancing. In 1936, they moved again, this time to the La Paternal neighborhood in Buenos Aires.
Mirtha's career began in 1939 during the carnival season. She joined a contest on a radio show called Cinema Diary. She became famous in the late 1930s and early 1940s. This was a special time for Argentine movies, much like the golden age of Hollywood films. Mirtha was 14 when her agent, Roberto Cerebello, gave her the stage name Mirtha Legrand. Her first movie was Educating Niní. Her sister Silvia and the famous actress Niní Marshall were also in this film.
Mirtha's Family Life
In 1945, while filming a movie called Cinco besos (Five Kisses), Mirtha met Daniel Tinayre. He was a director from France. Mirtha and Daniel got married on May 18, 1946. They had two children: a son named Daniel Andrés, born in 1947, and a daughter named Marcela, born in 1950. Mirtha and Daniel were married until he passed away in 1994. Their son Daniel also passed away in 1999.
