Miss Jim 45 was a very famous Quarter Horse mare. She had a beautiful reddish-brown coat, which is called "red dun." She was born in 1966 and became a top show horse. In 1970, she won a huge award: the American Quarter Horse Association, or AQHA, High Point Halter Horse Award.
Her father was a horse named Jim Harlan, and her mother was Miss Paulo 45 from the famous Waggoner Ranch. Her family tree included other legendary horses like King P-234 and Peter McCue. This strong family background helped her become a champion.
Her Amazing Show Career
Miss Jim 45 was incredibly successful in horse shows. In 1970 alone, she competed in 153 shows! She earned 436 points in "halter" classes. In these classes, horses are judged on their looks and how well they are led.
She won first place 139 times, which is almost every show! She was also Grand Champion Mare in all but 16 of those shows. This means she was judged the best female horse in nearly every competition.
Frank Merrill was the person who showed Miss Jim 45 to her big win. He once said that anyone could lead her into the ring and she would still do great. This shows how naturally talented and beautiful she was. Besides her High Point award, she also earned a Superior Halter Horse award from the AQHA.
Her Legacy and Honors
Miss Jim 45 passed away in 1978. Even after her death, her achievements were remembered. In 2000, she was honored by being added to the AQHA American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame. This is a very special award for horses who have made a big impact on the Quarter Horse breed.
