The Mississippi Coliseum is a large building in Jackson, Mississippi. It was built in 1962. This building is used for many different events. It is part of the Mississippi State Fairgrounds complex.
The Coliseum has 6,812 seats for basketball games. For concerts, it can hold up to 10,000 people. It is built on top of an old, inactive volcano called the Jackson Volcano. The building is about 2,900 feet (884 meters) above the volcano.

What Else is at the Fairgrounds?
The Mississippi State Fairgrounds has more than just the Coliseum. It also includes the Mississippi Trade Mart. There is an agricultural complex called the A & I. You can also find the Kirk Fordice Equine Center there.
Sports and Events at the Coliseum
The Mississippi Coliseum has hosted many exciting events over the years. It was once home to a professional ice hockey team.
Hockey History: The Jackson Bandits
From 1999 to 2003, the Coliseum was home to the Jackson Bandits. They were a minor league ice hockey team. Hockey fans enjoyed watching their games here.
Annual Fairs and Rodeos
The Fairgrounds is famous for the Mississippi State Fair. This big event happens every October. People come from all over to enjoy the fair.
Every February, the Coliseum hosts the Dixie National Rodeo. This is a very large rodeo. It is the biggest rodeo held east of the Mississippi River.
College Basketball Games
Since the 2018–19 basketball season, the Coliseum hosts special college games. The Mississippi State Bulldogs men's basketball team plays one game here each season. The Ole Miss Rebels men's basketball team also plays one game here every season.
