Mitsuo Watanabe (born June 4, 1953) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a Midfielder or Forward. He was also a member of the Japan national team.

Playing for Clubs
Mitsuo Watanabe was born in Nasu, Tochigi, Japan, on June 4, 1953. After finishing high school, he started his professional football career in 1972. He joined a local team called Towa Real Estate.
Joining Fujita Industries
Later, his club moved to Tokyo and changed its name to "Fujita Industries". This team became very successful. They won the top league in Japan, the Japan Soccer League, three times. They were champions in 1977, 1979, and 1981.
Winning the Emperor's Cup
Fujita Industries also won the Emperor's Cup, which is another important football tournament in Japan. They won it in 1977 and 1979. Mitsuo Watanabe played a big part in these victories. He played for the club until he retired in 1983. During his time in the league, he played in 201 games and scored 34 goals.

Mitsuo Watanabe also played for the Japan national team. This is the team that represents Japan in international football matches.
