The Miyazaki House is a special and beautiful building in Lillooet, British Columbia. It was first built in the 1880s by a man named Caspar Phair. He designed it to look a bit like his wife's old home, Eyrecourt Castle, in Ireland. When it was first built, the gardens around the house were very large and reached all the way down to Lillooet's Main Street.
Later, another person named A.W.A. "Artie" Phair lived in the house. Sadly, he didn't take care of the gardens, and they became overgrown. In 1945, Dr. Masajiro Miyazaki came to Lillooet. He was brought from a special camp in Shalalth to help the community. Even though he was an osteopath (a type of doctor who focuses on bones and muscles), he also worked as a doctor and dentist for the people of Lillooet.
Dr. Miyazaki lived in the house, which was then called the Longford House. In 1947, a rule that stopped Japanese Canadians from buying property was lifted. Dr. Miyazaki was then able to legally buy the house from Artie's son, Harold Phair. He used the house as his office for many years. In 1983, Dr. Miyazaki generously gave the house to the community of Lillooet.
