Mlesna Tea is a company from Sri Lanka that sells different kinds of tea. It is owned by a company called Euro-Scan Exports. Mlesna makes many types of tea. These include loose tea, tea bags, and special tea gifts. They offer black tea, green tea, and even flavored teas. You can also find herbal teas from Mlesna.
The Story of Mlesna Tea
A man named Anselm Perera started the Mlesna company in 1983. Before that, he worked with tea for a long time. In 1969, when he was just eighteen, he became a tea taster for a company called Brooke Bond. A tea taster is someone who tastes different teas to check their quality and flavor.
Anselm worked there for ten years. Then, he became a Tea Manager at another company. Soon after, he was promoted to Tea Director. This meant he was in charge of all the tea operations. In 1983, he decided to start his own tea company. He named it Mlesna, which is his first name, Anselm, spelled backward! He was born on a special day, St Anselm’s Day.
Mlesna Tea Shops
Mlesna was the first company in Sri Lanka to create special "Tea Centres" and "Tea Kiosks." These are like small shops where people can buy and learn about tea. Their very first shop opened in Liberty Plaza, Colombo in 1985.
Today, Mlesna has sixteen tea shops across Sri Lanka. They have also opened shops in other countries. You can find Mlesna tea shops in places like Russia, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Greece, and India.
Winning Awards
Mlesna has won many awards for its tea and packaging. They have received a total of 82 awards! These include 19 Presidential Export Awards. These awards are given for being great at sending products to other countries.
They also won 11 National Export Awards. Mlesna has won many awards for its packaging too. They received 23 Lanka Star Awards, which are national awards for packaging. They also won 17 Asia Star Awards and nine World Star Awards. These awards celebrate excellent and high-quality packaging around the world.
