The Story of Moderate Women
How It All Started
In 1910, women in Sweden were given the right to vote in local elections. This was a big step! Soon after, the first woman from the Moderate Party, Valfrid Palmgren, was elected to a local council. Because of these changes, the Moderate Party decided it was time to create a special group for women within the party.
The very first women's group was formed in Stockholm in 1912. It was called Stockholms Moderata Kvinnoförbund, which means "Moderate Women's League of Stockholm." Important women like Lizinka Dyrssen, Louise Stenbock, and Cecilia Milow helped start it. Ebba von Eckermann was the leader of this first group.
Becoming a National Group
A few years later, in 1915, the Stockholm group grew bigger. It became a national group called Sveriges moderata kvinnoförbund (SMKF). This means "Moderate Women's League of Sweden."
Two Groups Working Together
For a while, there was another women's group too. It was called Högerns Centrala Kvinnoråd, or "The Central Women's Advisory Committee of the Right." This group was started in 1920 by Alexandra Skoglund. So, between 1920 and 1937, there were two separate women's groups working alongside each other.
Joining Forces
In 1937, the two women's groups, Sveriges moderata kvinnoförbund (SMKF) and Högerns Centrala Kvinnoråd, decided to join together. They formed one single women's group. This new, united group later became known as the Moderate Women. Alexandra Skoglund, who had led the Högerns Centrala Kvinnoråd, became the leader of the new combined group.
