Mohammad-Ali Rajai (Persian: محمدعلی رجائی) was an important political leader in Iran. He was born on June 15, 1933, and he served as the Prime Minister of Iran before becoming the second President of Iran. His time as president was very short, from August 2 to August 30, 1981. He also held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs for a few months in 1981. Mohammad-Ali Rajai tragically died in an incident on August 30, 1981, along with Prime Minister Mohammad-Javad Bahonar.

Becoming a Leader in Iran

Mohammad-Ali Rajai played a key role in the government of Iran. Before he became president, he served as the Prime Minister of Iran. He started this important job on August 12, 1980. During his time as prime minister, Abolhassan Banisadr was the president. Rajai worked to lead the country during a challenging period.

Serving as Foreign Minister

While he was prime minister, Mohammad-Ali Rajai also took on another big responsibility. From March 11, 1981, to August 15, 1981, he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs. This meant he was in charge of Iran's relationships with other countries around the world. It's quite unusual for one person to hold both prime minister and foreign minister roles at the same time!

Serving as President

Mohammad-Ali Rajai became the second President of Iran on August 2, 1981. He took over from Abolhassan Banisadr. His time as president was very brief, lasting less than a month. During his presidency, Mohammad-Javad Bahonar became the new prime minister. Rajai's leadership was cut short when he tragically died in an incident on August 30, 1981, the same day as Prime Minister Bahonar. After his passing, Ali Khamenei became the next president of Iran.
