Mohawk Corner, Missouri facts for kids
Mohawk Corner, also known simply as Mohawk, is a small community in northeast Polk County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is not a city or town with its own government, but rather a place where people live. You can find it where two roads meet: Missouri Route 64 and Missouri Route D.
If you travel five miles north on Route 64, you will reach Pittsburg and the beautiful Pomme de Terre Lake area, which are in Hickory County. If you go two miles south on Route D, you will find the community of Polk.
A Look at Its Past
Mohawk Corner has a bit of history! A post office, which was called Mohawk, opened there in 1899. It served the community until 1916 and was run by the McMillian-Exneras family.
The community got its name from Mohawk, Tennessee. Many of the first families who settled in Mohawk Corner came from that area. These early settlers were known for raising goats.
