Mohican State Park is a fun outdoor area in Ohio, United States. It covers about 1,110 acres and sits by Pleasant Hill Lake. You can find it about 5 miles south of Loudonville in Ashland County. This park is surrounded by the much larger Mohican-Memorial State Forest.

The Clear Fork of the Mohican River flows right through the park. It has carved a cool, narrow gorge over time. This river then joins another one, the Black Fork, to form the main Mohican River. Mohican State Park is open all year. It offers many activities like camping, hiking, boating, and mountain biking.

Discover Mohican's Past

Mohican State Park started in 1949. Back then, it was called Clear Fork State Park. It was created from land that belonged to the Ohio Division of Forestry. In 1966, the name was changed to Mohican. This helped avoid confusion with the Clear Fork Reservoir near Mansfield, Ohio.

An 8.5-mile mountain bike trail opened in 2005. It goes through both Mohican State Park and the State Forest. This trail was made possible by a team effort. The Mohican/Malabar Bike Club worked with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

Since then, the trail has grown! It is now about 24.5 miles long. Both mountain bikers and hikers can use this trail. Every June, the park hosts the Mohican MTB 100 race.

Join Naturalist Programs

From late May to early September, the park offers daily activities. These are led by naturalists, who are experts on nature. These programs are for campers, cottage visitors, and the public. You can watch movies at the campground amphitheater on weekends. There are also nature hikes and family games. You can even take tours of the old grist mill.

Kids aged 7 to 14 can join the Junior Naturalist program. A restored cabin used to be the park's Nature Center. It has now moved to where the game room used to be.

Stay Overnight: Camping and More

Mohican State Park has different places to stay. There are three camping areas: the Class A Campground, the Class B Campground, and the Group Camp Area. You can also stay at the Mohican Resort and Conference Center. This resort was built in 1974.
