Molina de Aragón is a town in the province of Guadalajara, Castile-La Mancha, Spain. It's home to about 3,300 people (as of 2018). This place once held the record for the lowest temperature ever measured in Spain, a chilly -28.2 degrees Celsius! Now, it's the third coldest spot.
Long ago, Molina de Aragón was the center of an independent Muslim state called a taifa. Christian forces led by Alfonso I of Aragon took it back in 1129. Later, in 1154, a powerful lord named Manrique Pérez de Lara gave the town special rules. He and his family claimed to rule Molina "by the grace of God," meaning they believed their power came from God. Molina is also where the mineral aragonite gets its name.
