Molly McGlynn is a talented Canadian American film director and screenwriter. She is well-known for her movies Mary Goes Round and Fitting In. For Mary Goes Round, she won the Jay Scott Prize from the Toronto Film Critics Association. Her film Fitting In received the award for Best Canadian Film at the 2023 Vancouver International Film Festival.

Early Life and Education
Molly McGlynn was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. When she was five years old, her family moved to New Jersey in the United States. She grew up there but later returned to Canada for her university studies.
McGlynn studied film at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. She also learned about television writing and production at Humber College in Toronto. These studies helped her prepare for a career in filmmaking.
Starting Her Career with Short Films
McGlynn began her career by making several short films. These included Office Daydreams, I Am Not a Weird Person, Shoes, Given Your History, and 3-Way (Not Calling).
In 2013, her short film Shoes was nominated for Best Short Film at the Female Eye Film Festival. Another short film, 3-Way (Not Calling), premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. This film starred actors like Emma Hunter, Kristian Bruun, and Emily Coutts.
Directing Feature Films
In 2017, Molly McGlynn directed her first full-length movie, Mary Goes Round. The film starred Aya Cash. McGlynn developed the story for this movie at the Canadian Film Centre.
Mary Goes Round was shown at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. The story follows a character named Mary who returns to her hometown. There, she learns some surprising family news and meets a teenage half-sister she never knew she had. McGlynn won the Jay Scott Prize for new filmmakers because of her work on this movie.
Television Work
After her first feature film, McGlynn started directing episodes for various television series. In 2018, she directed parts of the web series How to Buy a Baby. For this work, she won an Indie Series Award for Best Directing in a Comedy.
She has also directed episodes for many popular TV shows. These include Workin' Moms, Bad Blood, Speechless, Little Dog, Grown-ish, Bless This Mess, The Wonder Years, Kenan, and Animal Control.
Recent Projects
In 2020, Molly McGlynn was part of the Micki Moore Residency at the Toronto International Film Festival. She then wrote and directed her next feature film, Fitting In. This movie stars Maddie Ziegler and Emily Hampshire.
Fitting In first premiered at South by Southwest on March 13, 2023, under a different name. Later in 2023, the film won the award for Best Canadian Film at the 2023 Vancouver International Film Festival.
