Monaville, Texas facts for kids
Monaville is a small community in Waller County, Texas, in the United States. It's located where two roads, FMs 359 and 1887, meet. The town got its name in 1886 from the daughter of the person who founded it.
Monaville was started in 1886 by a man named Daniel C. Singletary. He opened a grocery store there. Mr. Singletary decided to name the new place after his daughter, Mona.
The community had its own post office from 1886 until 1913, when it closed. Back then, Monaville also had a school and a cotton gin. A cotton gin is a machine that quickly separates cotton fibers from their seeds.
In 1941, about 75 people lived in Monaville. By 1987, the community had only one business. Most people living there worked in farming, like raising cattle. Between 1990 and 2000, the number of people living in Monaville stayed around 180.
Monaville is located about 7.3 miles (11.7 km) south of Pine Island. You can find it on FM 359, right where it crosses FM 1887.
A short distance north of Monaville, FM 359 crosses over Harris Creek. The next town south on FM 359 is Pattison. From Monaville, FM 1887 goes west and then north towards Hempstead. FM 1887 does not continue to the east; that part of the road is called Richard Frey Road. The Monaville Cemetery is located to the west, near Holik and Kerr Roads.
Monaville is part of the Hempstead Independent School District. This district helps manage the schools in the area.
The Monaville School was first set up by 1893. It was part of the Monaville Community School District, also known as School District No. 13. Later, in 1930, the Monaville Independent School District was formed. This happened because some smaller school districts joined together. However, this district was closed by 1953.
