Moncla is a small community in Louisiana, United States. It's located in Avoyelles Parish. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. In 2000, about 642 people lived there.
History of Moncla
Moncla got its name from the family of Dr. Joseph Moncla. He was a doctor from France who worked in Avoyelles Parish in the 1800s. Sadly, Dr. Moncla passed away while he was visiting a patient.
Later, some of Dr. Moncla's sons made their homes on his old farm. This farm was located along the Red River of the South. One of his sons even became the local postmaster, handling the mail for the area.
Moncla has always been a good place to cross the Red River. This is because of the "Moncla Bluffs," which are high banks that made it easier to cross the river even when the weather was bad in the 1800s. Today, a modern bridge helps people cross the Red River at Moncla. This is the third bridge to be built in this spot.
