About Mongala Province

Mongala Province is an important part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is known for its natural beauty and diverse communities. The province helps govern its local areas and provides services to its people.

Where is Mongala Located?

Mongala Province is found in the northern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It shares borders with several other provinces. These include Bas-Uélé to the east, Tshopo to the southeast, and Équateur to the west. The Congo River also flows through parts of the region.

A Look at Mongala's History

Before 2015, Mongala was not a separate province. It was part of a much larger area called the Équateur Province. In 2015, the Democratic Republic of the Congo reorganized its provinces. This change created Mongala as its own distinct province. This was done to help manage the country better.

How Mongala is Organized

Like other provinces, Mongala is divided into smaller areas. These smaller areas are called territories. Each territory helps manage local affairs and communities. Mongala Province has three main territories:

  • Bongandanga
  • Bumba
  • Lisala

The capital city, Lisala, is also one of these territories. It serves as the center for government and business in the province.
