Shlomo "Moni" Moshonov is a famous Israeli actor, comedian, and theater director. He was born on August 18, 1951. He has been acting and directing since 1977.

Early Life

Moni Moshonov was born in Ramla, Israel. His family came to Israel from Sofia, Bulgaria. They were Bulgarian Jews. His father, Moshe, used to sell fabrics in the Ramla market. Moni grew up in Ramla. When he was older, he joined the Israel Defense Forces. He was part of an entertainment group there.

Acting Career

Starting Out

After studying drama at Tel Aviv University, Moni Moshonov joined the Haifa Theater. He worked with this group for five years. In 1977, he appeared in his first movie. It was called Masa Alunkot ("Journey of Stretchers"). He acted alongside Gidi Gov in this film.

TV and Film Roles

From 1978 to 1998, Moni Moshonov was a star on the Israeli TV show Zehu Ze!. This was a popular comedy show. He acted with Shlomo Bar-Aba, Dov Glickman, and Gidi Gov. The show was first on Israeli Educational Television. Later, it moved to Channel 2.

He also appeared in several movies during this time. These included The Man Who Flew in to Grab (1981) and Every Time We Say Goodbye (1986). In the 1980s, he performed in five "Festigal" song festivals. He sang children's songs at these events. In 1991, he was in Arik Einstein's children's video Like Grownups. In 1992, he helped create the film Cables. He wrote, produced, and starred in it.

Theater Work

Moshonov has performed in many plays. He worked with famous theaters like the Cameri Theater, Habima, and the Beit Lessin Theater. He also did comedy shows with Shlomo Bar-Aba. In 2006, he directed a play called Ideal Wedding at Habima. He also acted in the play The Goat: or, Who Is Sylvia? that same year.

Later Film and TV

In 2000, Moni Moshonov starred in Besame Mucho. In 2001, he was in Dover Kosashvili's film Late Marriage. For his role in Late Marriage, he won an award for best supporting actor. This was from the Israeli Film Academy.

In 2004, he joined the TV sketch show Ktzarim on Channel 2. He won an award for best actor in a comedy series for this show. In 2007, he hosted the Israeli version of Thank God You're Here on Channel 10. He also acted in We Own the Night in 2007. In 2008, he joined the TV series Betipul and starred in Two Lovers.

In 2012, he played Peter Yom-Tov in the Israeli TV series The Gordin Cell. Peter was an old agent from Bulgaria. In 2013, he acted as Nick in the movie Hunting Elephants. He also appeared in the Israeli TV show Shraga Bishgada that year.

In 2014, Moni Moshonov was in the Bulgarian film Bulgarian Rhapsody. This movie was chosen to represent Bulgaria at the 87th Academy Awards. In 2015, he played Stanley Fischer in a TV advertisement. In 2020, he appeared in new versions of Zehu Ze! and The Jews are Coming.

Personal Life

Moni Moshonov married actress Sandra Sadeh in 1977. They have two children. Their daughter is opera singer Alma Moshonov [he]. Their son is actor and musician Michael Moshonov. Moni Moshonov lives in Tel Aviv, Israel.
