Monia Chokri was born in Quebec City, Canada. After finishing her studies at the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Montréal in 2005, she started her acting journey. Her mother has Scottish family roots, and her father comes from Tunisia with Berber heritage.
Monia has acted in many plays in Montreal. She also got important roles in films shown at the famous Cannes Film Festival. These films were directed by well-known Québécois filmmakers like Denys Arcand and Xavier Dolan.
Notable Film Roles
In the 2010 film Heartbeats, Monia played a character named Marie. Marie falls in love with the same man as her best friend, Francis, who was played by Dolan. Dolan also directed this movie. Critics, like those from Les Inrockuptibles and Le Monde, praised Monia's acting in this film. By the end of 2010, readers of Les Inrockuptibles even voted her as one of the top actresses of the year for her role in Heartbeats.
