About Monica Owusu-Breen
Monica Owusu-Breen has said she is half Spanish and half Ghanaian. She was born in England. As a child, she lived in Spain and learned English by watching TV shows. When she was eight, her family moved to Brooklyn, USA.
After college at Brown University, Monica helped make music videos. She later studied TV and media at the University of California, San Diego.
Monica's TV Career
Monica is famous for her work on popular TV shows like Charmed, Alias, Brothers & Sisters, Lost, and Fringe. She often works with another writer, Alison Schapker.
Monica's TV career started when she was asked to write scripts. This happened while she was working on her PhD. Within two years, she became a writer for the show Charmed. Early in her career, she used only "Breen" as her last name. She did this so people wouldn't make assumptions about her when she sent in her scripts.
Working on Alias
In 2003, Monica joined the spy action series Alias for its third season. She started as an executive story editor and writer. By the fourth season, she became a producer. For the final season, she was a supervising producer. During her three seasons on Alias, Monica helped write eleven episodes.
Working on Brothers & Sisters
In 2006, Monica helped develop the first season of the ABC drama Brothers & Sisters. She worked as a writer and supervising producer. She then became a co-executive producer for season two. She was an executive producer for seasons three and four. Monica left the series after the fourth season. She helped write eleven episodes for this show.
Working on Lost

In 2018, Monica Owusu-Breen was chosen to be the showrunner for a new TV version of the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A showrunner is like the main boss of a TV show.
In July 2020, it was announced that Monica would be the showrunner for the second season of ABC's Stumptown. This show was based on graphic novels. Monica even appeared at a virtual Comic-Con event to talk about the new season. However, the show was later cancelled in September due to problems from the COVID-19 pandemic.
