Monique Andree Barbeau is a famous chef from Vancouver, Canada. She became the head chef, also known as the executive chef, at a restaurant called Fuller’s in Seattle. In 1994, she won a very important award for chefs, the James Beard Award, for being the Best Chef in the Northwest. She even appeared on a TV show called In Julia's Kitchen with Master Chefs with the legendary chef Julia Child!

Becoming a Top Chef

Monique Barbeau learned her amazing cooking skills at The Culinary Institute of America. This is a very famous school for chefs. After she finished her studies, she worked in many top restaurants in New York City. Some of these included The Quilted Giraffe, Le Bernardin, and Chanterelle.

When she was 26 years old, Monique moved back to the Pacific Northwest. She then took charge of the kitchen at Fuller’s restaurant. In 1991, she also earned another degree from Florida International University. This degree was in hospitality management, which is about running hotels and restaurants.

Special Cooking Projects

Monique Barbeau has been part of some interesting projects. She was one of four chefs called the “Women Chefs of Peace.” The other chefs were Anne Rosenzweig, Rozanne Gold, and Susan Spicer.

She also cooked for the actors and crew of the TV show Northern Exposure. This means she made sure everyone on set had delicious meals! Monique also cooked for students at Currier House (Harvard College). She was part of their special Visiting Chef’s Program.
