Agnès Monique Ohsan Bellepeau was born in 1942. She is a politician from the island nation of Mauritius. She served as the fourth Vice-President of Mauritius from November 2010 to April 2016. She also stepped in as the acting President of Mauritius two times. The first time was from March to July 2012, and the second time was from May to June 2015.

Monique Ohsan Bellepeau's Career
Early Life and Journalism
Before becoming a politician, Monique Ohsan Bellepeau worked as a journalist. She was also a news announcer. She worked for the national TV channel in Mauritius, called the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation.
Becoming Vice President
In November 2010, she won the parliamentary elections. She was then chosen to be the Vice President. This happened after the previous Vice President, Angidi Chettiar, passed away. All the members of the National Assembly voted for her. This made her the first woman to become Vice President of Mauritius.
Monique Ohsan Bellepeau was a member of the Mauritian Labor Party. Later, she became the President of this party. Her father, Bartholomée Ohsan, was one of the people who helped start the party.
Serving as Acting President
On March 30, 2012, the President of Mauritius, Anerood Jugnauth, resigned. This meant he stepped down from his position. Because of this, Vice President Ohsan Bellepeau became the acting president. She held this role until Kailash Purryag became the new president on July 21, 2012.
Later, on May 29, 2015, President Kailash Purryag also resigned. So, Monique Ohsan Bellepeau became the acting president again. She served in this role until Ameenah Gurib was sworn in as the new president on June 5, 2015.
Private Life
Monique Ohsan Bellepeau was married to Yves Joseph Bellepeau. He was a businessman. Sadly, he passed away on November 16, 2010. This was just three days after she became Vice President.
