Monique Ohsan Bellepeau, born in 1942, is a well-known politician from Mauritius. She served as the fourth Vice President of her country. This role lasted from November 2010 until April 2016. She also stepped in as the acting President twice. The first time was from March to July 2012. The second time was briefly in May and June 2015.

Early Life and Media Work
Before entering politics, Monique Ohsan Bellepeau worked in media. She was a journalist and a news announcer. She worked for the national TV channel, the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation.
Becoming Vice President
Monique Ohsan Bellepeau entered politics and won parliamentary elections. On November 12, 2010, she was appointed Vice President. This happened after the previous Vice President, Angidi Chettiar, passed away. All members of the National Assembly voted for her. She became the first woman to hold the position of Vice President in Mauritius.
Political Party Leadership
Monique Ohsan Bellepeau was a member of the Mauritian Labor Party. She later became the President of this party. Her father, Bartholomée Ohsan, was one of the people who helped start the party.
Serving as Acting President
Monique Ohsan Bellepeau served as the acting President of Mauritius on two occasions.
First Term as Acting President
On March 30, 2012, the President of Mauritius, Anerood Jugnauth, resigned. This meant that Vice President Ohsan Bellepeau took over as acting President. She held this important role until July 21, 2012. On that date, Kailash Purryag became the new President.
Second Term as Acting President
Later, on May 29, 2015, President Kailash Purryag also resigned. Once again, Vice President Ohsan Bellepeau stepped in as the acting President. Her second time in this role was short. She served until June 5, 2015, when Ameenah Gurib was sworn in as the new President.
Personal Life
Monique Ohsan Bellepeau was married to Yves Joseph Bellepeau. He was a businessman. Sadly, he passed away on November 16, 2010. This was just three days after she became Vice President.
