Monistrol de Montserrat is a small town in Catalonia, Spain. It's located in the Bages county. This town is very special because it sits right at the foot of the famous Montserrat mountain.
The town of Monistrol de Montserrat is often called Montserrat-Vila. It's built on the eastern side of the Montserrat mountain. Below it, you can see the Llobregat river flowing through the valley. A big part of the Montserrat mountain, including the famous Benedictine monastery, is actually inside the Monistrol de Montserrat area.
Getting Around Monistrol
Getting to and from Monistrol is quite interesting! The town is connected to the monastery higher up the mountain by a special train called the Montserrat Rack Railway. This train is also known as the Cremallera de Montserrat.
You can also reach Monistrol by train from the valley. The FGC (a local railway company) has a line (R5) that stops in the valley. From there, you can take the rack railway up to the town or the monastery.
If you prefer to travel by road, the C-1411 road links Monistrol with other towns like Martorell and Manresa. There's also a very old bridge over the Llobregat river in Monistrol. This bridge was built way back in the 1300s!
