A Look at Mono Wind Casino's History
How the Casino Started
The Mono Wind Casino opened after an important agreement. In 1998, the Mono tribe made a deal with the State of California. This agreement allowed them to open and run a gambling place. The Mono Wind Casino was built soon after this agreement.
Challenges and Reopening
In 2005, the Mono Wind Casino faced a challenge. It was temporarily closed by officials from Fresno County. This happened because of a disagreement about money. However, the casino did not stay closed for long. After the tribe and the county reached an agreement, the casino quickly reopened its doors.
Plans for the Future
The Mono tribe has thought about opening another casino. They have made plans for a second location. However, these plans are still just ideas. The project has not yet moved forward to become a real building.
Dealing with Big Events
Casino Operations During COVID-19
Like many places, the Mono Wind Casino was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 24, 2020, the casino stopped its gaming operations. This was a few days after other casinos in the area also closed. Even though the gaming floor was closed, the casino still offered gas and food to go. The gaming floor safely reopened on June 2, 2020. They put in new safety rules to protect everyone.
Safety During the Creek Fire
In 2020, a large wildfire called the Creek Fire (2020) happened nearby. Because of the fire, the Mono Wind Casino area received an evacuation warning. This meant people should be ready to leave if the fire got too close.
