Discovering Monoquet's Past
How Monoquet Got Started
The area known as Monoquet was first planned out in 1834. It officially became a community when a post office opened there. This happened on January 29, 1844. However, the post office closed a few years later, on April 17, 1851.
The Name's Origin
The community was named after a very important person: Chief Monoquet. He was a leader of the Potawatomi people, an Indigenous group. Chief Monoquet lived near the Tippecanoe River.
