Mont-roig del Camp is a charming town and municipality in Catalonia, a region in Spain. It's located in the middle of a special area called Baix Camp, which is like a county. This area stretches from the mountains of Serra de Colldejou all the way to the beautiful Mediterranean Sea.
Mont-roig del Camp is actually made up of two main parts. There's the historic town of Mont-roig del Camp itself, which is a bit inland. Its economy mainly focuses on growing delicious nuts and olives. Then, there's the lively beach resort of Miami Platja right on the coast, part of the famous Costa Daurada (Golden Coast).
Discover Mont-roig del Camp
This municipality has a long coastline, perfect for beach lovers! You'll find many campsites and a few hotels spread out along the shore. These are mostly in areas like Pins de Miramar and Miami Platja. There's also the lovely Platja de Rifà (Rifà beach), which is close to the Les Pobles district.
Historic Buildings to See
Mont-roig del Camp is home to some interesting old buildings. One of the most important is the "new" parish church, called Sant Miquel. It was built a long time ago, between 1574 and 1610. The church shows off a mix of two cool architectural styles: Gothic and Renaissance.
High above the town, on a rocky hill, you'll find the sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rock. It's a special place with a small chapel dedicated to Sant Ramon right above it. The views from up there are amazing!
The Town's Art Connection
Mont-roig del Camp has a special link to a very famous artist named Joan Miró. He was a painter who spent a lot of time at his family's property, called Mas d'en Miró, starting in 1911. This property is located in the Les Pobles district.
The landscapes and scenes around Mont-roig del Camp were a big inspiration for Miró. They appeared often in his early paintings. Two of his most famous works, The Farm (painted in 1920–21) and The Tilled Field (from 1923–24), show places and feelings from his time in Mont-roig.
