Montclair is a friendly neighborhood located in Quincy, Massachusetts. It sits right next to the city of Boston, but the Neponset River acts as a natural border between them. You can find Montclair generally along West Squantum Street, stretching from Newport Avenue towards the town line of Milton. It also reaches roughly to Hobart Street.

A Look Back at Montclair's History

Montclair wasn't always a busy neighborhood. It was once mostly quiet farmland and marshland. This area was originally part of Dorchester. But in 1792, it became part of Quincy.

How Montclair Grew

Most of Montclair as we know it today was built in the early 1900s. At that time, people who developed land started dividing up the farms. They did this to create new homes for Boston's growing suburbs. One of the biggest farms to be divided was the Micah Pope farm in 1883. The person who developed this land gave the neighborhood its name: "Montclair."

A Local Hero

Montclair is also the hometown of William R. Caddy. He was a brave Marine who fought in World War II. William Caddy was awarded the Medal of Honor for his amazing bravery during the war.

Important Places in Montclair

You'll find several important spots in Montclair. These include the Montclair Elementary School, where many local kids learn. There's also Montclair Park, a great place to play. Other landmarks are Bishop Field and the Presidents' Golf Course.

Getting Around Montclair

Montclair is easy to get to and from. It's very close to the North Quincy MBTA Red Line station. This train line can take you into Boston and other places. Also, the MBTA bus route 211 serves the neighborhood. This bus travels between Squantum and Quincy Center.
