Monte Barrett (born May 26, 1971) is an American former professional boxer. He competed in the sport from 1996 to 2014. Monte was known for fighting many of the best heavyweight boxers of his time. He even challenged for a major world title in 2006.

Monte Barrett's Boxing Journey
Starting as an Amateur
Before becoming a professional, Monte Barrett was an amateur boxer. He had 40 amateur fights. He won 37 of them and lost only 3. After a great amateur career, he decided to become a professional boxer in 1996.
Professional Career Highlights
Monte started his professional career with an amazing winning streak. He won 21 fights in a row! His first loss came in 1998 against Lance Whitaker.
In 1999, Monte won his first professional title. He became the WBC Continental Americas Heavyweight champion. This was a big step in his career.
Monte faced some of the biggest names in boxing. In 2000, he fought Wladimir Klitschko, who later became a world champion. Monte showed great courage in that fight. He was knocked down several times but kept getting up.
He also fought other tough boxers like Joe Mesi. Monte won important fights against rising stars such as Dominick Guinn and Owen Beck. These wins helped him get closer to a world title shot.
Challenging for a World Title
In 2005, Monte fought Hasim Rahman for an important WBC title. He lost that fight, but he still got a chance to fight for a major world championship.
In October 2006, Monte challenged Nikolay Valuev for the WBA heavyweight title. Valuev was a huge boxer, known as "The Beast from the East." Monte fought bravely, but his trainer stopped the fight in the 11th round to protect him.
Later Fights and Retirement
After his world title challenge, Monte continued to fight. He had a rematch with Cliff Couser in 2007, winning by knockout. He also knocked out Tye Fields in the first round in 2008.
In 2008, Monte fought David Haye in London. Haye was a very strong fighter, and Monte lost the fight in the fifth round.
Monte also faced Odlanier Solís and Alexander Ustinov in tough matches. In 2010, he had an exciting fight against David Tua. The fight ended in a draw, which means neither boxer won. Monte even knocked Tua down in the last round, which was a first for Tua's career!
After that fight, Monte announced he was retiring. However, he decided to come back to the ring. In 2011, he had a rematch with David Tua in New Zealand. This time, Monte won the fight by a decision from the judges. He also won two regional titles: the WBO Asia Pacific and WBO Oriental Heavyweight titles.
Monte's last fight was in 2014 against Luis Ortiz. Monte lost that fight. He officially retired from boxing after a long and exciting career.
