Montegiardino is a small, charming town in the country of San Marino. Its name means "Mountain Garden," which sounds lovely! It's one of the nine special areas in San Marino called castelli (which are like municipalities).

As of May 2018, about 967 people live there. The town covers an area of 3.31 square kilometers (about 1¼ square miles). Montegiardino is also home to parts of the University of the Republic of San Marino, which is the only university in the country.

Montegiardino's History

Montegiardino became part of San Marino a long time ago. This happened in 1463 during San Marino's last big expansion. It was an important addition to the country's territory.

Exploring Montegiardino's Geography

Montegiardino is known for being very small. It is the smallest castello in San Marino when you look at how many people live there. It is also considered one of the smallest country subdivisions in the world by its land area!

This small area shares its borders with other San Marino towns. These include Fiorentino and Faetano. It also borders two towns in Italy: Monte Grimano and Sassofeltrio.

Montegiardino has one smaller section within it called a curazia. This section is named Cerbaiola.

Famous People from Montegiardino

Even though Montegiardino is small, it has produced some talented people! One well-known person from here is Anita Simoncini. She is a singer who has even represented San Marino in the famous Eurovision Song Contest.

International Connections

Montegiardino has friendly connections with towns in other countries. This is called "town twinning." It helps different places learn from each other and build friendships.
