Montejo de Arévalo is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the province of Segovia in Castile and León, Spain. It's a quiet place with a rich history.

In 2022, about 171 people lived in Montejo de Arévalo. This number comes from the Spanish National Statistics Institute.

Long ago, until the early 1900s, this town was known by a longer name: Montejo de la Vega de Arévalo. This name described its location in a valley, or "vega," near the town of Arévalo.

Population Changes Over Time

The number of people living in Montejo de Arévalo has changed quite a bit over the years. At the start of the 20th century, around 1900, the town had over 600 residents.

By the middle of the century, in 1950, the population grew even more, reaching almost 700 people. However, since then, the number of residents has slowly decreased. In recent years, the population has been around 170 to 180 people.

Saint Thomas of Aquinas Church

The Santo Tomás de Aquino's church is a beautiful old building. It was built in a style called Gothic-Mudéjar. This means it combines the grand, tall designs of Gothic architecture with the detailed, decorative styles of Mudéjar art. Mudéjar art was created by Muslim craftsmen living in Christian Spain.

Historic Manor Houses

You can also see several Casas solariegas in Montejo de Arévalo. These are old, grand manor houses that once belonged to important families. They show how people lived in the town many years ago.

Our Lady of the Orchards Church

The Virgen de los Huertos' church has a special story. It was built in the exact spot where a statue of the Virgin Mary was found. Even after the statue was moved to the Santo Tomás de Aquino's church, it kept returning to this original spot. Because of this, the people decided to build a church there to honor the statue.
