Montgomery is a friendly neighbourhood located in the northwest part of Calgary, Alberta. It's a place where people live in homes and apartments. The neighbourhood is surrounded by Shaganappi Trail to the east, 32nd Avenue and Market Mall to the north, and the beautiful Bow River to the south and west. Right across the river to the west is another community called Bowness.

A Look at Montgomery's History
Montgomery started as a community way back in 1911. In 1943, it was given its current name, Montgomery. It was named after Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery. He was a famous British military leader. He played an important role in both World War I and World War II.
Montgomery became an official town on December 24, 1957. But it changed to a village just a few months later, on April 15, 1958. Finally, on August 15, 1963, the village became part of the City of Calgary. This process is called amalgamation.

Montgomery is part of the Calgary City Council. This council helps run the city. The neighbourhood is represented by a special person called a Ward 1 councillor. This person speaks for the community. There is also a special plan in place for the area. It helps guide how Montgomery develops.

In 2012, the City of Calgary counted how many people lived in Montgomery. There were about 3,860 people living in 1,839 homes. This was a small increase from the year before. In 2011, there were about 3,686 people.
The neighbourhood covers an area of about 3 square kilometers. This means that in 2012, there were about 1,287 people living in each square kilometer. In 2000, the average income for families in Montgomery was about $42,795. About 18.7% of the people living there in 2000 were immigrants. Some homes in Montgomery are condominiums or apartments. About 32.8% of the homes were rented out.
Schools in Montgomery
There is a public school in Montgomery called Terrace Road Elementary. A school called Foundations for the Future Charter School is also located here. It is in the building that used to be Montgomery Junior High School.
