About the Monument
This monument is a piece of public art. It includes a group of sculptures placed inside a fountain. There is also a wall with a relief (a sculpture that sticks out from a flat surface) of Eugenio d'Ors.
Who Designed It?
The idea for the monument came from Víctor d'Ors
, who was Eugenio d'Ors's son. Other artists helped create different parts of it.What You Can See
The front of the monument faces the Prado Museum. Here, you'll see a bronze sculpture group coming out of a fountain. This part was designed by Cristino Mallo . It shows a female figure, like an allegory (a symbol for an idea), stopping a creature with four legs. People have described this creature in different ways, like a "small dragon" or a "pet stegosaurus."
There is also a wall made of granite. This wall has a long message carved into it. It shares some of Eugenio d'Ors's important thoughts about life and art.
The Back Side
The back of the monument faces another building called the Casa Sindical. On this side, you can find a stone medallion. A medallion is a round or oval piece of art. This one was designed by Frederic Marès
. It shows a picture of Eugenio d'Ors and his birth and death dates.Below the medallion, there is another inscription. It says: "To the memory of the Orsian teachings. Madrid dedicates this fountain in 1963 being mayor the 16th Count of Mayalde." This means the city of Madrid built this fountain in 1963 to remember Eugenio d'Ors's ideas and lessons.
When Was It Built?
The monument was officially shown to the public in July 1963.
